It's Getting Hot in Here!

What if we told you that in just 30 minutes of sitting on that booty you tuck week-in and week-out for Barre class you could achieve weight loss, increased metabolism, muscle pain relief, immune system boost, detoxification, improved appearance of cellulite, reduced joint pain and stiffness, reduced stress and fatigue, as well as improved skin? After we catch our breath from that long list, allow us to tell you that this is not a leftover April Fool’s joke -- it’s cold, hard facts…or should we say, hot, hard facts (we had to!).

If you’ve been anywhere near the studio the last few weeks, it’s likely that you’ve heard us raving about our hot new addition (okay, that was the last one - promise). That’s right, Bella Barre is the proud new host of an Infrared Sauna! And we are so excited about everything our new toy can do, that we want to extend the party invitation to our #BellaBarreStrong ladies. Only thing is we figured you might need a little more convincing to sit in a heated box for half an hour. We get it. So let us share why we believe in the benefits of infrared saunas. (Warning: we put our Albert Einstein hats on for this) 

The sun, as we know, is a major source of energy that emits visible light in the form of ultraviolet (UV) rays, and heat in the form of infrared rays. While too much exposure to ultraviolet rays can be harmful (can you say ‘sunburn’?), infrared rays are actually completely harmless. Penetrating deep into our skin, infrared rays provide health benefits by dissolving harmful substances accumulated in our bodies, thereby vitalizing our cells and metabolism. How? Far infrared waves (the technology used in our sauna) create a deep heating action, which activates the sweat glands. Those sweat glands then become toxin-eliminating machines, pushing harmful impurities specifically from the cells inside our fat where our bodies store waste and harmful toxins, such as cholesterol and heavy metals, up to the surface. 

While traditional saunas raise the temperature of the air within the chamber to warm the body, far infrared saunas heat the body directly achieving deeper tissue penetration. As a result, we sweat (or get “sparkly”, for those of you that don't like the word) and receive all of the health benefits while avoiding the harmful and sometimes uncomfortable hot air of a traditional steam sauna. More importantly, far infrared saunas allow us to enjoy the healthy benefits of natural sunlight without any of the dangerous effects of solar radiation, leaving us to feel invigorated as opposed to depleted. 

If you still need more convincing, you’re a tough cookie but we love you anyway. So we outlined that long list of benefits mentioned earlier. Here are more reasons why the infrared sauna is the best thing ever! 

WEIGHT LOSS + INCREASED METABOLISM: According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, regular use of an infrared sauna provides the equivalent boost on the cardiovascular system as running. As you relax in the gentle infrared heat (NOT running), your body is working to produce sweat, pumping blood and burning calories. 

Since the infrared heat increases blood circulation, the delivery of oxygen-rich blood is delivered to oxygen-depleted muscles more efficiently. Muscles relax best when they are warm, which allows for greater flexibility and range of motion. Far Infrared heat relieves muscle tension
and reduces soreness on nerve endings and muscle spasms.

The deep heating from the infrared heaters will raise your core body temperature, inducing an artificial fever. Before you call us crazy, fever is actually the body’s natural mechanism to strengthen and accelerate the immune response, as seen in the case of infection. This immune system boost, combined with improved elimination of toxins and waste from sweating, increases your overall health and resistance to disease.

One of the major infrared sauna health benefits is its ability to increase your blood circulation and stimulate the sweat glands, which helps release toxins accumulated in your body. 
These toxins include highly toxic metals, such as lead, mercury, nickel, and cadmium, as well as other compounds such as alcohol, nicotine, and sulfuric acid. 

Contrary to popular belief, cellulite is not directly related to obesity, and the appearance of cellulite is not always reduced by weight loss (bummer, we know.) But since the far infrared heat warms three times as deep as conventional saunas, it is significantly more effective at reducing cellulite since it helps eliminate toxins stored in fat cells. 

Benefits of using an infrared sauna extend to treatment of several muscular-skeletal ailments, including arthritis, sprains, neuralgia, muscle spasms, and joint stiffness. In some cases, the pain and soreness caused by these conditions is even eliminated.
